Sports Summary

The year 7 to 10 hockey players faced Rishworth last weekend with an opportunity for the full squads to represent school. The girls all played very well, and most were able to overcome the near gale force winds as the under 15s and under 12A and B teams all won. One game which didn’t manage to beat the elements was the year nine match as the game was abandoned with ten minutes remaining due to one of the goals blowing over! The senior girls had their matches midweek.

The Second Eleven played in a County Tournament and finished 4 th after some testing encounters. Sophie Barker-Field and Lily Perring were the stand out performers.

The 1st XI played in the first round of the National Competition and faced a very strong RGS Newcastle team. In what was the best team performance from our girls this season, Ashville created chances and defended with determination. As the lead swapped hands numerous times our girls just couldn’t keep the pressure on the visitors as we lost by 6 goals to 4. It was, nevertheless, a fantastic team performance.

On the rugby pitches our boys played against Hymers. With an improved set of results in comparison to this fixture last year, the under 13s won and the under 14s drew 22 points all. The best performance came, once again, from our First Fifteen who were stunning in their execution of the game plan against a very good Hymers team which boasted 2 schoolboy internationals. Our victory by 29 points to 12 proves just how well we played and is a fitting end to a brilliant half term from our senior side
